We spent our first evening hunting for a room, as we didn\u2019t book anything in advance and we didn\u2019t realize how busy it would be. For whatever reason, we had envisioned the island of Borneo as one of the last bastions of wilderness and adventure, but the plethora of KFCs, shopping malls, and iPhone 3Gs ads quickly shattered that preconception. After searching for accommodation for over two hours and having no luck, we ran into two fellow travellers, Antoine and Floriane, who were also trudging from guesthouse to guesthouse without any results. After a few more failed attempts, we decided that the four of us would stick together and share a family room for the night.<br \/>\nThe next morning, after leaving our family room and getting settled into our double, we headed out to explore the city. As luck would have it, we awoke to the bustling Sunday Market. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonoandamanda.com\/islandsofadventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/010sundaymarket.jpg\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-109\" title=\"Amanda at the Sunday Market\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jonoandamanda.com\/islandsofadventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/010sundaymarket-100x83.jpg\" alt=\"Amanda at the Sunday Market\" width=\"100\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a>We spent the majority of the day exploring the market, meeting up once again with our \u201cfamily\u2019, to spend the evening with them. The next day, the four of us made our way to the Jesselton Jetty, and boarded a speedboat to the island of Mamutik. Only a 20 minute boat journey from K.K, we were soon relaxing on a beautiful white sandy beach, feeling a world away from civilization. We spent the day sunning, swimming, and snorkelling.<br \/>\nJust after sunset that evening, the four of us made our way to the night market, where we ate some of the best seafood of our lives. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonoandamanda.com\/islandsofadventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/010nightmarket.jpg\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-111\" title=\"The Night Market\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jonoandamanda.com\/islandsofadventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/010nightmarket-100x83.jpg\" alt=\"The Night Market\" width=\"100\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a>Mammoth Tiger Prawns, Fresh Squid and Grilled Grouper filled our bellies that evening and we spent the next day exploring the different markets and places of the city.
