Directly after finishing up with Uncle Tan, we headed into Sepilok to attend the afternoon orangutan feeding at the SORC (Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center). After buying our tickets and making our way through the crowds of people, we reached the front of the viewing area. A few minutes later, a cute, young orangutan walked right past Amanda and proceeded to climb the tree next to her and just hang out.
All the while, three other orangutans made their way to the feeding platform in order to get their dinner. We watched as they fed and played around, and we were amazed to see the cheeky macaques that kept trying to steal the orangutans dinner from right underneath them. Once the feeding was over, we left Sepilok and made our way back to Sandakan where we spent the night trying to catch up on our sleep.
The next morning we were up and out again, this time heading to Labuk Bay, in search of the proboscis monkeys. And Proboscis monkeys we found!
We attended the 11 a.m feeding at platform A, and we were able to see three troops of the monkeys. After a quick lunch and rest, we made our way back to the feeding platform, this time platform B, and again we were greeted by a multitude of monkeys. From there we went back to platform A, where we had an up-close and personal encounter with some sliver leaf monkeys. Jono was especially lucky, as he was allowed to get close enough to a Proboscis monkey to be able to feed it! It was amazing, and a true highlight of the trip!
