We left the island of Gili Trawangan feeling good, and after a short and sweet long-boat ride, we made it to Lombok. We drove about one hour inland, and were soon situated in Senggigi, the “Kuta” of Lombok… but not quite “Kuta, Lombok”.
We spent our first day in Senggigi wandering around, getting our laundry done, enjoying a spectacular sunset, and plotting out the next few days.
We had big plans for things to do, including scaling Mt. Rinjani, an active volcano and one of the highest peaks in all of Indonesia. The next day, we were up early and we booked a pair of scooters from a local man in town. We were planning to make it to the base of Rinjani before noon, so that we could have a look at it and swim in some of the waterfalls that surrounded it. However, our plans were demolished not more than five minutes into our trip, as Tim and Aimee’s scooter’s steering wasn’t functioning properly and they crashed at the side of the road. It was really scary, but luckily they both came out alive.
They were pretty shook up and torn up, Aimee on her foot and arm, and Tim on his thumb, arm, hip and leg. We went to the local clinic where Aimee got her wounds treated, and then spent the rest of the day recuperating in our hotel room. The next day, Tim decided it was best that he get his wounds professionally cleaned out (it was for the best, as they were pretty bad!) and so it was back to the clinic for us. The next few days were spent at the hotel where we spent the next few days changing dressings, and cleaning wounds. Not the most exciting of times, but we were very thankful that the injuries were minor and that Tim and Aimee would have a bit of time to relax before our next big adventure was to begin.
